Colby Braun, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Director
Our shared purpose
We understand that incarceration can be difficult for the people in our care, their friends, and their family members. Support is an important part of rehabilitation, and we hope the information shared here will help loved ones maintain strong relationships with individuals throughout incarceration.
We recognize the crucial role that support from family and friends play in rehabilitation and successful reentry into the community.
Our Community Connection Forums are designed as a welcoming space for individuals and families impacted by incarceration to engage directly with Department staff. These forums provide an opportunity to build trust, strengthen relationships, and ensure families feel heard and supported.
Participants will learn more about Department facilities, programs, and reentry services, while also gaining access to resources available to support their loved one during incarceration and beyond. These conversations are grounded in respect, openness, and a shared commitment to positive outcomes.
By listening to community concerns and sharing information clearly and honestly, the Department aims to strengthen partnerships with families and communities across North Dakota. Together, we can support rehabilitation, encourage successful reentry, and create stronger paths forward for all involved.
To foster a supportive environment for productive dialogue, attendance at the forums is limited to friends and family members of individuals who are currently incarcerated or on active community supervision. Note that the Department staff is unable to discuss individual cases and participants must follow the established community expectation to maintain privacy and safety and foster an environment of mutual respect.
